Irish bars can now be found in almost every country in the world and so during your holiday to Ireland, you shouldn’t miss out on the authentic experience! Popping into a cozy pub for a pint or two after a lovely walk around the Hook Peninsula, or a day at the beach is a real pleasure and in this area you’re really spoilt for choice.

Narrowing it down to the best three has been tough and required significant research (you’re welcome 😉) but here are our top contenders.

Templars Inn – Irish Bar, Wexford

Our number one choice for a pint of Guinness, or your tipple of choice, near to Hookless Holiday Homes has to be Templars Inn. Located just 10 minutes’ drive from our self-catering holiday homes, it is cosy and has all the hallmarks of the traditional Irish pub, with a modern touch. Reviewers on Google recommend it as a top spot for a few pints of Guinness, sundowners and local craft beers.

They also praise the excellent food, particularly the fish and seafood and the amazing sea views. A nice activity is a walk through our beautiful countryside to the Templars Inn for lunch and a few drinks during your stay with us.

The Sportsman’s Inn – Trad Session’s and Food, Wexford

Located in Ramsgrave, just a 15-minute drive from Hookless Holiday Homes, The Sportsman’s Inn is a very popular bar and lounge which is a must visit for sports fans. It has 10 big screens showing all the sports you can imagine, so you’re sure to catch the match you’re looking for. The Sportsman’s Inn has a well laid out bar area and a beer garden with children’s play area, as well as a lounge area.

They often have live music to enjoy in the evenings and there’s always a great atmosphere. Their weekly Bingo Nights on Tuesdays and Trad Session on Thursday are a lot of fun. The food is excellent too, with a wide range of Irish and International food on offer. Don’t want to drive, don’t worry – they send a courtesy bus for guests of Hookless Holiday Homes, so you can relax and enjoy the fun!

Simon Lambert & Sons – Wexford Town

The Lonely Planet recommends Simon Lambert & Sons in nearby Wexford Town and we’d definitely second that, especially if you’re into your beers. That’s because it’s a brewpub, brewing their own beer, as well as serving a wide selection of craft beers. Their menu is epic too, with brunch and lunch served Wednesday to Sunday until 4pm. Vegans rave about their vegan burger and the breakfasts, light bites, burgers and salads go down a treat with their fantastic beers.

There are regular events such as Open Mic Nights, live music and even poetry workshops. Read the reviews on TripAdvisor or check out their Facebook page to find out what’s on during your holiday in Ireland.

This really is just the tip of the iceberg, you’ll find great bars and pubs wherever you go! Nearby Fethard-on-Sea is another good place to visit. Molloys Bar and Neville’s Gastro Bar both come highly recommended.  There are also lots of great shops where you can pick up your favourite tipple and take them back to your self-catering accommodation and relax on the terrace, or on the comfortable sofas and chill out.

The Irish are known world over for loving the “craic” and knowing how to have a great time and we’re sure you’ll love visiting these fantastic bars during your stay with us. You must try at least a half of Guinness, to tick that off your bucket list, but don’t worry if it’s not your thing – there’s plenty more to choose from.

Most of our local pubs do great food as well and are the perfect place to rest tired feet, quench your thirst or simply celebrate having an amazing holiday in Ireland!
